Crysis 3 – is it good?

Consistency isn’t rewarded in these days, at least not as much as innovation and Crysis has never been a series with many fantastic moments. Probably, but not sure, that’s one of the reasons why I wasn’t too invested in what was happening on the screen. Of course, I do not ask from a game to be full of revolutionary ideas, but I’m interested to just be fun. So, I have to wonder: is Crysis 3 fun?

Crysis 3 takes place in New York in 2047, 24 years after the events of Crysis 2. The town was incorporated in a gigantic dome created by CELL corporation. Dome is a semi-jungle, full of giant trees, extensive swamps, and violent rivers. Levels are incredibly beautiful, varied and extended. It is interesting to see a metropolis conquered by wilderness, turned into a living ruin.

The game boasts with quite high levels that allow multiple approaches to the same goal. Unfortunately, freedom of movement is quite limited. Compared with FarCry3 and Half-Life2 (superior and spiritual father), Crysis 3 hasn’t really nooks worthy of exploring and the side missions can be counted on the fingers of one hand. The game looks very expansive, but the truth is that is very linear.

Some maps are quite impressive, encapsulating several kilometers between you and your aim. Unfortunately, Crysis has the bad habit to put invisible walls, or ancient walls or boulders with the right height to no be able to use power-jump for exploration. Finally, after you are tired of trying the same thing for 30 times, you return to the bombed way shaped liked an arrow to finish the mission as you should have from the beginning.

Among the 8 types of game, 6 of them are variations of what I found in Crysis 2, and 2 are new. The first one is Spears, a game mode where the players have to control certain special points for points. The second one is a Predator-Simulator – two players will benefit from super-suits and 14 CELL soldiers will have to survive. Exciting or terrifying, depending on the role that you have, the hunters are always invisible and need to be hit with and EMP grenade to be seen. Overall, this game will offer you super action and you will not get bored no matter what role you will play.

So, to sum up my little review, Crysis 3 is a good game to play, a fun game to play, a game that will offer you some good hours of fun and action.
